Dan Rafael recently reported that Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach feels a loss at this point in Pacquiao’s career would be devastating to his reputation but not to his career. The final words of the article read “maybe then Mayweather will fight us.” ESPN might have said it best, “odds be damned,” what if Marquez won? As tantalizing a prospect as it is, Pacquiao probably won’t lose tonight. In fact, Ring magazine’s prediction that Marquez will be stopped by the referee or doctor in late rounds is the most likely scenario. Then again, wouldn’t it be great if somehow, even with another dominant performance, Pacquiao seemed vulnerable enough to attract Mayweather’s team? It seems possible given the announcement that they will only decide on the May 5 opponent after the Marquez fight. Why else would he be waiting?
